The loss of the 2020 drum corps season is just one in a long list of disappointments we’ve all experienced relating to the COVID-19 pandemic. While the Blue Stars were not able to bring the joy of music and the marching arts to the La Crosse area this summer, we were able to contribute to our community through service and kindness.
In preparation for the 2020 season, we had begun the process of acquiring food and non-perishable items. Once our summer events were cancelled, we donated those items to local food banks. Additionally, we were able to donated hand sanitizer and gloves to local healthcare providers.
In partnership with the School District of La Crosse and the Salvation Army, each week this summer we delivered free meals to students throughout the city of La Crosse. This service provided nutritional food to young people that might not otherwise received nutritional meals during the summer months.
The same partnerships saw us deliver school supplies to area students in need, giving young adults the tools necessary to succeed during a challenging start to the scholastic year.
We are making plans for returning to the field next season and look forward to the sounds of brass and percussion echoing off the bluffs in our hometown in 2021. You can help: Wear a mask. Wash your hands. Follow social distancing guidelines. We will all get through this together.
